Flashback Friday: Gai Barone – Un-Theme

Revisiting one of the most haunting releases in the Coldharbour catalogue.

Every Friday we reach back into the Coldharbour catalogue and shine a light on a release that deserves to be heard again. Some tracks define a moment. Some define an artist. And some, like Gai Barone’s “Un-Theme,” manage to do both.

Released in 2017, “Un-Theme” marked Gai Barone’s original production debut on Coldharbour Recordings – and it arrived fully formed. The Italian producer had already built a reputation as one of the most sophisticated voices on the progressive and trance spectrum, and this track made clear why. Haunting, hypnotic, and built for the long hours of the night, it was exactly the kind of music Coldharbour was made for. Markus recognised it immediately, securing it as one of the key pieces for his entry in the Ministry of Sound Trance Nation compilation series.

About the Track

There is something deeply patient about “Un-Theme.” It does not rush. It builds slowly, layers carefully, and rewards the listener who stays with it. The original extended mix runs close to ten minutes and earns every second. The Harry Square remix offered a more direct dance floor interpretation, going down a treat at Luminosity Beach Festival on its release. Together the two versions showed the full range of what Gai Barone could do – intimate and expansive at the same time.

About Gai Barone

Gai Barone has been one of the most consistent and respected names in progressive and trance music for over a decade. The Italian producer has a rare gift for creating music that feels both technically precise and deeply emotional – a sound that sits perfectly within the Coldharbour universe. “Un-Theme” remains one of the finest examples of what he brings to the table.
